Hysterectomy

What is it?

Hysterectomy or complete surgical removal of the uterus has been shown to be an effective method of treating symptomatic uterine fibroids as the entire uterus (and all of the fibroids) is removed. The advantage of hysterectomy when compared to other procedures is hysterectomy ensures no fibroids will grow back because fibroids only grow in the uterus.

Unfortunately, hysterectomy does not come without consequences. Hysterectomy is major surgery which usually requires 3-5 days in the hospital after surgery. Additionally, it usually takes 6-8 weeks to recover from a hysterectomy.

Hysterectomy is not an option for women looking to preserve their uterus or for women who want to bear children in the future.
