What is uterine fibroid embolization?

uterine fibroid embolization effectiveness

A safe and minimally invasive treatment for symptomatic uterine fibroids.

80-90% of patients report significant relief from their symptoms 3 months after uterine fibroid embolization.

How it works

A small incision is made in your thigh or wrist.

Uterine fibroid embolization is sometimes called a “bandage procedure” because, instead of the large abdominal incisions that need to be made for other procedures, a small incision is all you need–small enough to be covered with a bandage.

Small beads are injected into the fibroid to stop blood flow.

Tiny beads are injected through this catheter and into the arteries supplying blood to the fibroids, blocking their blood flow. The catheter is then removed.

Fibroids shrink within 3 months, eliminating symptoms.

After the blood flow is cut off, the fibroids begin to shrink down, with 80-90% of women reporting a significant decrease in their symptoms after 3 months. Uterine fibroid embolization has a quick recovery time, with most women returning to work 3-5 days after the procedure.

Patient Review
For Dr. Anderson | Miami Lakes, FL

I had a procedure done by Dr. Anderson last week. I really can’t describe in adequate words what a great result I had, plus the fact that the staff, all of them, are great and really put me at ease not knowing what to expect. The followup calls I received were really appreciated. If only all my doctors had the same demeanor and skill it would be wonderful.

Everyone was super friendly. I loved DePopas MD. He was very caring and when I asked him to examine my side, (not scheduled) he jumped right in. It was a big relief to find out all was well. I liked that he lowered the lights during the procedure and it helped me relax. He was fast which I appreciated too.
